I posted my review of the Kindle edition of A Shade Of Blood in 2013 in this Blog but it wasn’t until years later that I bought the audiobook and it was this week when I finally started listening to it (using my Amazon Echo Dot while I was doing things around my apartment).

It was nice to go back to the story of Derek and Sofia and I’m planning on resume reading the A Shade of Vampire Series.

It was enjoyable listening to this Audiobook and I especially liked the chapters narrated by males, my favorites being the ones in Derek’s POV.

The choice in narrator for Derek Novak was spot on and it made me look for more books narrated by him (I truly loved his taking on the character and his voice, and I think he makes a perfect Derek). Searching in Audible I found out his name is Zachary Webber, and he’s also Christian Grey in the Audiobook version of Grey and Darker (Fifty Shades of Grey and Fifty Shades Darker as Told by Christian) and a narrator in Maybe Someday and November 9 by Colleen Hoover, among other books (I have these other four Audiobooks in my Audible library and I plan on listening to them this year).

If you like Fantasy, YA and Paranormal Romance books the A Shade of Vampire series is a good option for you to explore.

 

 

Audiobook Review.- Portlandia Travelogue: The Brussels to Antwerp Express

One of my Favorite Quotes: “Two weeks, I answered in a vaguely seductive but official tone.”

Comments: Fred Armisen as Candace is one of my favorite characters from Portlandia and I was really excited to find this Audiobook.

I love how Candace describes everything in great detail (people, herself..) and how she keeps true to her demanding and kind of bossy attitude.

Would I recommend it?: Yes (specially if you are a Portlandia’s fan). I would definitely enjoy listening to more Audiobooks like this one.

Comments:

This book is a Classic and a most read, I found the narration by Rosamund Pike very engaging and I especially enjoyed it in the parts of Mr. Collins, Mrs. Bennet and Jane Bennet.
While listening the Audiobook I couldn’t help compare the book with the 2005 Movie adaptation (the one starring Keira Knightley), and to be honest even when I think the character of Lizzy is really well written, she wasn’t my favorite. There are some things that I found myself questioning about Lizzy after finishing the book (particularly some of her attitudes towards people like Darcy and even sometimes her friend Charlotte).
Overall I enjoyed this book a lot, I love how Jane Austen portrayed the characters and I would recommend it (specially this Audiobook version).

I have a big collection of Kindle books and I’m always looking for good offers on the Audiobook version (so I can I switch between reading and listening to the book).

Yesterday I found in Audible a version of Pride and Prejudice narrated by Rosamund Pike, currently I’m on chapter 7 and loving it.

Originally, Pride and Prejudice wasn’t included on my Reading Challenge, but I decided to make it part of the Book List.

Book Review:

I read Sweet Evil (Book 1 in the Trilogy) last February and it became one of my favorite books, this week I decided to listen the Audiobook and I loved too.  The narration by Erin Mallon was really good and I liked the different voices she made for the characters (especially Anna and Kaidan).

After finishing the Audiobook I searched for Sweet Peril in my Kindle, I found it and I couldn’t help but start reading it, I needed to know what was going to happen with Anna, Kai and Kop. From page one I was engaged to the story, I loved the writing and how things started to take its place.

In this book we learn more about the story between the Nephilim and the Dukes, and also about Anna’s role.

I like how well developed and interesting are the characters in this and the previous book (Sweet Evil), and I particularly enjoyed reading about the relationship between Anna and the rest of the Neph (especially Kai, Kop and Marna), and the interactions she has with her father Belial.

To me, the story has it all to be an enjoyable reading, is exciting, there’s romance, intrigue, some twists and best of all, I was satisfied with the way this sequel ended (I won’t give any spoilers here).

This was another great book by Wendy Higgins and I really recommend it (as well as Sweet Evil, Book 1), I’ll definitely be reading Sweet Reckoning as soon as is released (I already pre-order the book and the release date is April 2014, sniff sniff).

Ahhh and to deal with months of waiting until Book 3 is released… well I think I’ll be buying and listening the Audiobook of Sweet Peril. 

Faulkner in 5 Minutes

Light in August by William Faulkner

William Faulkner is considered one of the most influential writers of the 20th Century and some of his works has earned him important Literature prizes.

During a visit to the Corner BookShop that’s inside the Bellevue Library, I found a Hardcover edition of Light in August (a used book, but in good condition). I have to admit that the only thing I knew about Faulkner was that he is an important author in American Literature, but there was something about this book… I quickly searched the book in the Goodreads App to read the synopsis and rating, but it was after hold the book in my hands that I knew I had to buy it.

Today I listened Faulkner in 5 minutes (I got it for free in Audible.com), is short and, between others things, provides a quick exploration of the elements that Faulkner use in his works, also mentions the names of some Authors that were influenced by him.

I enjoyed listening to this short Audiobook and I recommend it, specially to people that, like me, is not familiar with Faulkner and wants to learn a bit about him and his work.
